It began its life in the distant past, about 4,000 years ago, and its current configuration dates from the time of the Republic of Dubrovnik. Its mode of operation is an outstanding reminder of the medieval production of salt and represents a cultural monument of the first rank. The method of production has not changed over the centuries and its ecologically healthy conditions guarantees the maintenance of a high quality of salt.
